When Christina Applegate steps out for the Screen Actors Guild Awards later this month it will be for the last time, at least as an actor.

The 51-year-old has hinted that she is stepping back from the career she launched as a baby as she continues to battle Multiple Sclerosis.

Christina is nominated for the Female Actress in a Comedy award for the third year in a row for playing Jen in the Netflix hit Dead To Me but confessed that she feels too unwell to carry on with the gruelling days on set.

By all accounts though she’s not ready to give up on work altogether. ‘It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal,’ she told The Los Angeles Times.

The mum-of-one explained: ‘Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5am and spending 12-14 hours on set; I don’t have that in me at this moment.

Touchingly she already has her date for the awards, which take place on 27 February, lined up: her daughter Sadie who is hoping to meet her idol, Natasha Lyonneon the night.

Christina is eyeing up producing or working in development when she does retire from acting. Other options include ‘doing a s*** ton of voice-overs to make some cash to make sure that my daughter’s fed and we’re homed.’

It was during the filming of the last season of Dead To Me that Christina began experiencing tremors in her leg.

She was eventually diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the brain and nerves.

‘It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road but as we all know, the road keeps going unless some a*****e blocks it,’ she told her followers at the time.

The tough road has seen her forced to spend months in bed and gain 40 pounds due to inactivity. It also left her struggling to get through filming the new series.

‘I was a wreck every day, but most of that wreck would take place in my trailer by myself. But there were times I’d break down on set and be like, “I can’t, we have to take a break, I need a half-hour,” and everyone was so loving that it was okay.’

Through it all, the one person who has had her back is her co-star Linda Cardellini. ‘She literally pulled me under her wing and protected me, and took care of me every single day,’ Christina said.
